STOCKTON, Calif. – The Stockton Thunder found a way to comeback from a two goal deficit to win game two of the Western Conference Quarterfinal at the Stockton Arena defeating the Colorado Eagles with a final score of 3-2.
The Eagle’s Joey Sides scored the first goal only 48 seconds into the game after Olivier Roy allowed a turnover behind the net. Only 1:02 later, Teegan Moore scored from the left circle to put the Eagles up 2-0.
The Thunder shook off the first minutes of the game, to keep within reach. It would not be until 8:06 into the second period when Max Campbell redirected a Matt Foy shot to close the gap 2-1.
Despite hammering away at Colorado’s goaltender Kyle Jones, throughout the third period, with 17 shots on goal, it wasn’t until 16:36 that Max Campbell was the hero, scoring his second goal of the game to even the score 2-2, and forcing overtime.
As the sudden-death overtime action began, Campbell took a relay pass into the offensive zone, and sent the puck to Kevin Baker behind the net. Baker’s centering pass found Chris D’Alvise, who redirected the winning game goal past Jones.
Jones took the loss with 32 saves for the night, as Roy posted 20 saves in the 3-2 win. Campbell’s two goals and an assist won him the first star of the night, while D’Alvise and Sides took the second and third stars respectively. There were 3,050 fans in attendance.
Thunder leads the series 2-0, as both teams head to Colorado for game three on Friday, April 6.
