Stingrays looking to clip Flyers wings

SHEFFIELD, UK – With just over two months of the season left the Hull Stingrays risk being cut adrift at the foot of the Elite League and missing out on the end of season playoffs. Trailing the Edinburgh Capitals by 4 points in the league table and Braehead by 6 in the Gardiner Conference the Stingrays will be looking for maximum points this weekend when they take on Fife home and away. Two wins over the Flyers on Saturday and Sunday would bring Hull right back into the playoff hunt and a 3-way tie for the final post-season spot. It’s been honours even so far this term with both teams winning two of the four games played, however it is Fife who have the slight edge having won the last couple by a single goal; indeed all four games this season have been decided with the winning margin never more than a single score. Elsewhere in the Elite League Belfast will be the only side to have the weekend enjoying some home comforts as Braehead and Edinburgh make the journey across the waters on Friday and Saturday night. Meanwhile Saturdays schedule is completed by two Erhardt Conference games with Coventry making the short trip to Nottingham and Cardiff logging a few more miles with a trip to take on the Sheffield Steelers. Sunday will see focus shift to ‘north of boarder’ with 3 of the four games taking place in Scotland. As well as Fife’s game against Hull Sheffield will be doing battle in the shadow of the castle when they take on the Capitals and Braehead complete their weekend on the road with the Dundee Stars providing the Hospitality. Finally Nottingham will follow Cardiff back down the motorway network to ply their trade against the Devils at the Cardiff Arena. 2 Elite League teams will miss out on the playoffs this season and the chance to go to Nottingham for the end of season show piece weekend and with some teams having just 20 games left to play the push for those post-season spots is starting to click into gear.
