Stingrays blanked by Belfast Giants win 3-0

BELFAST – Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays were shut out for only the third time this season as they went down 3-0 to runaway Elite League leaders Belfast Giants at the Odyssey Arena.Belfast

Giants netminder Stephen Murphy made 30 saves to lead his side to a 21-point advantage at the top – it was also the second time he has blanked Stingrays this term.

Jeff Mason put Giants ahead on the powerplay with 27 seconds of the first period remaining. After a scoreless second session, two further powerplay markers from Dustin Whitecotton (49.56) and Chris Higgins (51.18) rounded off the scoring.

Goaltender Ben Bowns was named Stingrays’ man of the match after making 42 saves in an impressive display.

Pavel Gomeniuk and Jason Silverthorn were missing through injury for Stingrays but Kyle Mariani iced just two days after suffering a depressed fractured of the cheekbone.

Stingrays are back in action when Nottingham Panthers visit Hull Arena on Sunday night (6pm face-off).
