Steve Regier – a welcome addition in Peoria

QUEBEC CITY. P.Q. -Originally selected the by New York Islanders, 148th overall in round five, the left winger decided to sign with the St. Louis Blues organization and played very well for the Rivermen compiling a record of nine points (5g-4a) after 10 games.

When the Edmonton native stepped on the ice for the first time with his new team. Nobody knew him very well except the general manager but since then he has certainly earned the head coach’s confidence since he was used with everyone plus seeing time on the power play and penalty killing.

“Steve did a good job and his productivity is coming from playing well defensively, playing hard in new the structure and going in the tough area,” Rivermen coach Davis Payne said. “The way he scored the goals is playing around the net and they haven’t been a bunch of pretty goals even if he is capable of scoring pretty goals because he has that kind of skill. All his stuff comes from good positional play. ”

The coaching staff still is in the evaluation stage with him since the team only has played ten games, so he has the chance to play with everyone right now. “He played all over the place, we’re still kind of going through the process with only ten games. We are new to each other we are still looking for some complete chemistry with the guy. He played parts with all three lines and we’re still kind of looking to see who is going to get off good start and who is going to produce what at this point. It is a work in progress so far,” mentioned the Rivermen’s coach.

At 6’ 5” and 205 pounds Payne gives plenty chances to his new addition to show him what he is made of and when you look at his productivity Regier seems to answer very well to his coach’s challenge. Seeing time on power play and penalty killing unit gave plenty chances to show exactly what kind of player the left-winger is.

Peoria’s general manager was the one who saw Regier first and believed that the Edmonton native can bring good things to his organization and who knows that he might get back in the NHL. From coach Payne,” To get back in the big leagues Regier needs to continue to play the way he has meaning to continue to bring those things, to continue to work on his strengths and his quickness and he should be able to get back in the NHL.”
