Steelheads are merciless in Utah

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – In the end, the Idaho Steelheads were as merciful as possible and ended this series in the first period of game four with 3 goals.   Mark McCutcheon notched his third of the post season less than a minute into the period.   Two minutes later, Evan Barlow picked up his third of the series on the power play, and for insurance Brandan Kushniruk scored a short-handed goal with eight seconds left in the period.   Matt McKnight added his third of the series and post season, in the second period.  Idaho planned their next series as the Grizzlies had few answers to the offense and were never able to threaten the Steelheads’ defensive zone.   Despite being outplayed in the game, the Grizzlies managed to outshoot Idaho 33-27, including a 10-3 edge in the third when the Steelheads were protecting their game and series lead.     Utah ’s Tom May broke Richard Bachman’s shutout midway through the third.   Bachman earned the first star of the game in stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced.     The Steelheads now await the winner of the Stockton-Bakersfield series.   Contact Lou.Lafrado@prohockeynews.com
