Steeldogs record their first win of the season

SHEFFIELD, U.K.- The Sheffield Steeldogs came back from a three goal deficit to record their first win of the 2012/13 season, beating the Swindon Wildcats 5-4 in OT.
The Sheffield Steeldogs started the game poorly in front of their home crowd, finding themselves 3-0 down at the end of the first period.
Two powerplay goals at 2:54 and 7:55 from Swindon’s Aaron Nell put the Steeldogs in a difficult position early in the game.
Steeldogs player/coach, Andre Payette (2+2) had an altercation with Wildcat, Loris Taylor, after Shane Moore suffered a hit to the face. The subsiquent powerplay resulted in another goal for Swindon, this time, from Lee Richardson at 18:45, who gave the Wildcats a three goal lead heading into the second period.
The Steeldogs found their feet, however, in the second period, with a powerplay goal from Captain, Greg Wood, and a goal from Ukrainian defenceman, Pavel Gomeniuk, at 26:26 and 33:19, respectively, to make it 3-2.
Swindon’s two goal lead was soon restored with a powerplay goal from Jamie Hayes at 35:08. The Steeldogs, however, piled on the pressure, with two goals in the last five minutes from Edgars Bebris at 35:50 and Ben Morgan 39:57 to tie the game at 4-4 at the end of the second period.
Despite an onslaught of pressure from the Sheffield Steeldogs, both Swindon the netminder, Dean Skinns, and Steeldogs netminder, Dmitri Zimozdra, denied the opposition a winning goal, sending the game into OT.
It didn’t take long for the game to be decided in OT. After just 37 seconds, Greg Wood sealed the deal for the Sheffield Steeldogs, who recorded their first win of the new 2012/13 campaign.
Ben Morgan was awarded the MOTM.
After the match, Payette said, “ On Sunday, it was absolutely fantastic to have the team battle back from a three goal deficit.”
“The guys showed their never-say-die attitude and it was a whole team effort that won the game.”
“If the guys play as well as they did in the fight back on Sunday, we are going to have a great season”.
