CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars defeated the Chicago Wolves 3-2 on Wednesday in front of 4,090 fans at Cedar Park Center. Stars left wing Francis Wathier scored the game-winning goal with 4:25 left in the third period, helping Texas get back to .500 on home ice. Stars right wing Greg Rallo also tallied as Texas improved to 2-0-0-0 against Chicago this season. Texas goalie Brent Krahn stopped 20 shots in the victory, which ended the Stars four-game losing skid. Chicago goalie Edward Pasquale stopped 27 of 30 shots in the defeat.
After a scoreless first period, the Wolves took a 1-0 lead with a shorthand goal by Angelo Esposito. The Chicago forward’s first goal of the season came at 12:02 with help from Jason Krog. The Stars responded 37 seconds later with a power-play goal by Francis Wathier at 12:39. Forwards Greg Rallo and Scott McCulloch both provided assists to tie the game 1-1. The goal snapped an 0-for-25 streak for Texas on the power play.
The Stars claimed their first lead of the night as Greg Rallo scored his second goal of the season just 2:34 into the final frame. The goal was set up by center Travis Morin and Scott McCulloch. Chicago left wing Frederick Pettersson tied the score with a power-play goal at 8:45, knotting the game 2-2. Texas recaptured the lead with 4:25 remaining in regulation. Wathier scored a power-play goal to give the Stars the lead for good at 3-2. The game-winning goal was set up by defenseman Maxime Fortunus and Raymond Sawada.
The Texas Stars will host the Wolves again on Tuesday, November 16th at 7:30 pm. Texas travels to Oklahoma City on Friday, November 19th at 7:05 pm to take on the Barons.
