Stars edge Marlies in SO, 2-1

TORONTO, ONTARIO – The Stars defeated Toronto 2-1 in a shootout in front of 4,517 fans on Sunday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany (7-6-1) made 30 saves in regulation and stopped all four attempts in the shootout to seal the victory. Toronto goalie Ben Scrivens (11-7-4) stopped 22 of 23 in regulation, but allowed two goals on three shootout attempts in the defeat. Stars center Travis Morin scored the team’s lone goal in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
 
The Marlies opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Rookie Nazem Kadri carried the puck into the high slot in the Texas zone, snapping a shot through traffic and into the net at 10:35. Mike Brennan set up Kadri’s 17th goal of the year and a 1-0 Toronto lead.
 
After a scoreless second period, Texas tied the game at 8:47 of the third period. Center Travis Morin tipped in a rebound for his 17th goal of the year. Right wing Sean Backman and defenseman Jordie Benn each had an assist on the game-tying goal for the 1-1 score.
 
After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to a shootout. Stars goalie Tyler Beskorowany stopped all four Toronto attempts to pick up the shootout win. Texas forwards Greg Rallo and Francis Wathier each scored, as the Stars tallied on two of three attempts.
 
Texas continues a five-game road trip on Friday, March 18th in Manitoba at 7:30 PM. Texas returns home to face the Houston Aeros on Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:30 PM.
