GUILDFORD, UK – The hockey world will come together again this weekend as players from across the South of England pay tribute to youngster Alfie Skelton who tragically died in a fishing accident two months ago.

At only fifteen years old, the promising Guildford Junior had his whole life ahead of him before a freak incident on a Surrey pond took his life and shattered family, team mates and friends alike. As is often the case in times of tragedy, the hockey community have rallied around and will be hosting a memorial game at the Guildford Spectrum this coming Saturday (21 May).
Players of all ages and backgrounds will gather to take part in two games to be played in the spirit young Alfie would have approved of. The first game will be between Guildford Under 16’s and a select team of Alfie’s friends from around hockey.
The second game will be a real treat for hockey aficionado’s in the area as Guildford’s speedy under 18’s team coached by Milos Melicherik face off against some of the, shall we say less quick veterans and legends of the game coached by former Slough Jets hero Gary Stefan.

Confirmed as icing for the guest team are Alfie’s former coaches and indeed his uncle Warren Rost, who played for the Streatham Redskins last season. Joining Warren is former Nottingham and Romford player Terry Kurtenbach, former Slough defenseman Scott Moody, current Bracknell Bees Nicky Watt and Terry Miles along with the don of Streatham hockey Pete Quiney.
In addition to the two games of hockey, there is a ‘Mega Raffle’ in which fans can win Jets games shirts, a signed Chelsea shirt and other top prizes. Entry to the games is free with the first one starting at 16.45.
If you are in the area please head across to the Spectrum and get involved in what should be a good day of hockey with a fitting tribute to one of the games lost talents. There is even a rumour of a BBQ so don’t miss out.
