Sharks leave Wolfpack bewildered

WORCESTER, Conn – When things go south, they really go south sometimes.   After taking the first two games of the series, the Hartford Wolfpack went south and decided they liked it there.

The Worcester Sharks gave up those first two games and then roared back to take the series in six games with a 5-3 decision Saturday night.

Once again, as they did in game five, the Sharks blistered the Wolfpack net for three goals and essentially ended the Pack’s dreams of evening the series.

Andrew Desjardins got the scoring going for the Sharks 3:53 of the first.   The Wolfpack tied it with a marker about three minutes later from Dane Byers.   But the Sharks put the game and series away between 12:17 and 14:29 when Lukas Kaspar and Dan DaSilva connected giving the home team a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

DaSilva connected again late in the second to give the Sharks a two goal lead again after Hartford’s Dale Weise had cut the lead to 3-2.

Logan Couture added another insurance marker in the third and the Sharks were on their way to the second round.

The Providence Bruins are the next opponent for the Sharks as they dispatched their archrival the Portland Pirates on Friday night.

Rookie netminder Matt Zaba, while brilliant in the first two games, was average in the last four of the series and will need some work next season to re-establish his form and lead the Wolfpack.

Koln (Germany)–native Thomas Greiss picked up the win for the Sharks in making 27 stops on 30 shots.   Greiss was solid in net throughout the series and certainly gave the Sharks time and space to make the clearing passes and rush the puck up ice to challenge the Wolfpack.   In the end, Hartford did not have any answers for the Sharks’ offense nor their defense.
