STOCKTON, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks erased an early Kings deficit to run away with a 7-2 win, leading the series two games to none.
The Los Angeles Kings scored two goals early in the first period. Jake Muzzin and Trevor Lewis scored at 1:51 and 9:33 respectively. The Kings lead by two going to the first intermission.
However when the Sharks returned to the ice, it as a new game. Seven different Sharks team mates scored. Mike Brown scored at 4:25, Raffi Torres at 9:04 and Justin Braun scored at 14:45 of the second period. It would not be fair to say Jonathan Quick had difficulty in the net, each of these were prime shots. The Sharks led 3-2 after the second.
The Sharks momentum continued into the third period, as Patrick Marleau scored at 1:08, Joe Pavelski at 4:07 and Logan Couture at 8:08. Joe Thornton scored on a power play opportunity at 10:06, for the final goal of the night, increasing the Sharks lead to 7-2. There were plenty of hard hits and aggressive flare-ups throughout the game, as well as some ten-minute misconduct penalties handed out at with just under six minutes remaining.
A scrum at the net, let to roughing and misconducts to Mike Brown and Kyle Clifford, and Dustin Brown and Andrew Desjardins also received misconducts.
Quick took the loss in the net for the Kings, with 40 saves while Antti Niemi led the Sharks with 26 saves on net.
The Sharks lead the series two to zero. There have been 11 different team members from the Sharks to score goals in the first two games. Game three is Tuesday in Staples Center.
