Season ends for Pro Hockey News today

LAS VEGAS – Wednesday marks the end of the NHL season with the presentation of the 2011 NHL Awards here in Las Vegas.   And with those presentations this afternoon, the end of another successful season of coverage of professional hockey comes to an end for Pro Hockey News.

The 2010-11 season started early as it does every year for PHN with the dropping of the puck in the United Kingdom.   September is now the official start of our season and we glad of it.

This was also the first season we were credentialed by the National Hockey League as an electronic media outlet.   That approval led to the credentialing of Pro Hockey News staff to the All-Star Game in North Carolina, the first for us.

Meanwhile the season itself has been a boom for us in readership.   When we started in 2003 we focused on the Central Hockey League and old Western Pro league.   But since then we have grown to a worldwide outlet for professional hockey and the UK presence and coverage is testimony to our reach.

Our readership has grown each year and this year we have set records on weekly, monthly and season-long numbers.   For the season, we have now recorded more than 1.5 million page views and nearly 750,000 readers since the start of the season.   Since January of this year we have consistently exceeded each previous week’s numbers and our monthly numbers have broken sequential records as well.

The active season culminated with the approval of three of our staff to the Stanley Cup Finals in Boston.   In the vernacular, PHN traveled heavy to Boston this year and performed well.

Now the year ends with one more feather in our collective cap.   PHN has representation in Las Vegas for 2011 NHL Awards ceremony.   That gives PHN NHL credentials in three marquee events this season including the Cup Finals.

We are proud of where we have come to in covering hockey worldwide and the quality of our coverage and talent of the staff are what drives the credibility we are gaining.

Now on to the awards!
