Saint John eliminates Victoriaville winning game six 7-1

QUEBEC CITY P.Q. — The Saint John Sea Dogs took control of Game Six in front of their fans by scoring three goals in the opening period, two with the man advantage, en route to a 7-1 victory over Victoriaville to clinch the series 4-2 and will now take on the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL finals. The winner of that series will move on to the Memorial Cup finals.

The Sea Dogs power plays worked very well scoring three of their seven goals on six power plays opportunities. The Tigres ended up 0-5.

Veteran Sea Dogs forward Mike Hoffman scored Saint John’s second goal of the game with a two man advantage thanks to a great play by Nicholas Petersen, who kept the puck in the offensive zone before Despres found Hoffman who got off a heavy wrist shot beating the Tigres goaltender low blocker side.

Before the opening period ended, Petersen added Saint John’s third goal of the game with 18.7 seconds remaining. Saint John goaltender Marco Cousineau made key saves on Victoriaville forwards Tomas Kubalik, Philip-Michael Devos and Yanni Gourde, preserving the lead.

Tigres broke the ice with their only goal of the night 1:40 into third period when Andrej Nestrasil scored. Saint John restored their four goal lead with Hoffman’s second goal of the night in a shorthanded situation 2:55 into the third period.
