RAPID CITY, SD – – For the second night the Rapid City Rush sneaked past the Arizona Sundogs in overtime, with the Sundogs losing 2-1 Saturday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. In the final two games against the Rush in the regular season the Sundogs received two points holding them in the eighth spot in the standings.
Both teams came out strong, hungry for the victory. Early in the opening period Sundogs’ Riley Emmerson was given two minutes for slashing and Johan Ryd took advantage of a shorthanded breakaway which Rapid City’s netminder Tim Boron covered up. Five minutes later Ryd was key to killing off Alex Velischek’s cross checking penalty, making three big body blocks in front of the Arizona net. With 32 seconds left in the opening period Kevin Baker scored on the rebound to put the Sundogs on top after 20 minutes. Bryan Cameron and Michael Trebish each collected the assists.
Leading goal scorer for the Rush, Konrad Reeder knotted the game 6:43 into the second period with a wrister that caught Andrew Engelage off guard and sailed past his stick side. With no third period scoring the game was forced into overtime for the second night and with 1:18 left, Matthew Larke notched the game winner for the Rush.
