ROMFORD,U.K- A very poor start to the 2008 English Premier league season has resulted in the release of three players from the Romford Raiders roster. Currently sitting at the foot of the EPL table the Raiders have just one regulation win in ten games and two overtime victories.
Management including Head-coach Warren Rost has addressed the defensive issue and released three players from the leaky defense. Although no replacement has been found as yet the Raiders took the decision to release import (Non EU trained) defenseman Marko Filip and Jan Galko, both from Slovakia and British born Richard Hughes. A Raiders spokesman spoke of the release of half of the defensive unit. “You can dress it up how you like but some of the player performances have been well below our expectations and there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough.” The Raiders have acknowledged the fact they don’t have replacements but saw it neccersary to take action now. “It is a gamble because we don’t have replacements signed yet but for now we will have to go with what we have and call up some Spitfires in the interim,” Raiders spokesman said. British defenseman Richard Hughes has been offered a slot in the lower English National side Romford Spitfires but has been rumoured to be signing for Flintshire Freeze. This coming Saturday (25th) the Raiders travel to Slough Jets in what will be a memorable night for former Jet and current Raiders Head-coach Warren Rost. The gritty player turned coach is having his number four shirt retired and lifted to the rafters in recognition of 16 years service at the Slough club which included stints as player, coach, general manager and junior development coach.
