Romford add two more

ROMFORD, UK – Romford Raiders have announced the signings of netminder Glen Jackson and defenceman Liam Doyle for the 10/11 season.

Both players are familiar with the Raiders having iced for them previously. Doyle spent the majority of last season with Haringey Greyhounds in the ENL, but also made three appearances for the Raiders last season when they were short of bodies. The 25 year-old has spent most of his career at Haringey, but has also appeared for Chelmsford, Invicta and the Wightlink Raiders. In 24 games last season he registered nine points (4+5) for the Greyhounds.

A Romford spokesman said: “Liam did a really good job in his brief spell with us last year, and if it wasn’t for other commitments I suspect he would have foregone the ‘Hounds and signed up for us permanently. We certainly tried to keep him in the team. Circumstances have changed this season so with Liam available it was an easy decision to welcome him back.”

Glen Jackson returns to the Raiders after serving as backup to Carl Ambler at Rom Valley Way in the 08/09 season. The young netminder came through the Romford junior programme, and has a lot of experience in the ENL, as well as in the EPL last season with the Swindon Wildcats. He recorded his best stats in 07/08 with Invicta, when in 20 games he achieved a goals against average of 2.40 and a save percentage of 91.8%.

Of Jackson, the Raiders spokesman said: “Jacko was mainly used as a backup at EPL level but never let us down when he started or took over in the net. We all know that goalies can be a bit precious sometimes but Glen is absolutely dedicated and has a terrific attitude. He also has plenty of experience with Streatham, Lee Valley, Invicta and Oxford on his CV. This could be a very big year for Jacko because, although Danny has still to name his other netminder, the regular starter’s slot is certainly up for grabs.”

Romford are now well into the recruitment process, having announced ten players so far. Several announcements are yet to be made though, and the Romford spokesman concluded by adding: “Danny Marshall continues negotiations with other prospective team members although it is likely that the final few places on the roster will remain vacant until the Raiders’ Coach has seen players in action at the summer trials.” Contact the author dave.lambert@prohockeynews.com
