Road test looms for Phoenix

MANCHESTER, UK – MANCHESTER Phoenix face a tough to Basingstoke this weekend before welcoming Peterborough Phantoms. Fresh from their 6-1 victory over Guildford, a win down in Hampshire would level matters at the top of the table with less than 20 matches left. But they’ll have to record their first victory in five attempts against the Bison – and play a whole lot better. Netminder Stevie Lyle has been outstanding between the pipes at Basingstoke and Phoenix have failed to put him under enough pressure. Hand’s men seem to sh oot from distance on the former C ardiff D evil and he’s simply too good to be beate n from range. The Bison are strong up front too with Greg Chambers (56pts), Greg Owen (50pts) and Doug Sheppard (45pts) all playing well. Manchester are in form though and have a fully fit roster following a month beset with injury. Sunday’s home clash against Peterborough (5.30pm) should be more routine. The last time they met in the Dome Phoenix won 7-5. To conta ct the author email: Mike.Appleton@prohockeynews.com
