GLASGOW, UK – Elite League expansion team Braehead Clan has moved quickly to replace Adam Calder as Player/Coach with the signing of Bruce Richardson as Player/Coach.
Former DEL player, Bruce Richardson will be at the helm of the Elite League’s newest team, Braehead Clan when the puck drops at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow this September.
Following the loss of Elite League all time record point scorer Adam Calder earlier in the week by mutual consent, the Clan moved quickly to tie up Richardson who spent the last two seasons on the forwad lines of the Nottingham Panthers.
Scoring 124 points in 123 appearences for the Red, Black and Gold midlanders, including a Challenge Cup winners medal and the Team Spirit award for the Panthers – Richardson has been a key part of the attack for the Corey Neilson coached team.
Spending over 200 games in the respected American Hockey League, and a further season in the DEL, Richardson will have plenty of former team mates to call upon and speaking to the club website today he indicated that he was looking to announce his first import signings within a week.
At 32, Richardson will be amongst the youngest of coaches in the Elite League but the un-drafted Ville St. Pierre, Quebec native is sure to add some excitement to the Scottish team next season, taking over 100 penalty minutes in both his season with the Panthers.
Meanwhile, the future of Calder remains uncertain with Sheffield Steelers, Hull Stingrays and Manchester Phoenix all possible destinations for the former Blaze captain.
Also in Nottingham, Sean McAslan has announced he will be returning to North America following an outstanding job offer for his wife in the Oil Industry. A veteren of 129 AHL games, McAslan has spent 4 seasons in Europe and is now likely to sign for a Canadian club in the minor pro North American leagues.
