Reign Win Fifth Straight Game, 3-2 in Overtime Eric Springer nets his first pro goal in win

ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign won their fifth straight game in a 3-2 overtime thriller against the Bakersfield Condors before a home crowd of 7,921 on Friday night.

The Condors took the lead at 4:15 when they hacked their way through Michael Hutchinson’s pads. The Reign countered at 10:55 when Mario Lamoureux and Adrian Van de Mosselaer set up the play for Cody Sol to rip a shot from the blue line past Laurent Brossoit for his fourth tally of the season.Ontario Logo

Just over a minute into the second period, Kyle Kraemer moved the puck into the Condors zone and with a quick deke, beat Brossoit with a backhanded, top shelf shot to put the Reign ahead 2-1. Matt Register and Jake Newton earned the assists. The Reign were short-handed by two players and just as Sol returned to the ice giving the Condors just a one-man advantage, Bakersfield scored to tie the game 2-2. Gary Steffes netted his second of the night with the equalizer.

The third period went scoreless leading to yet another overtime decision.

Just 1:48 into the overtime period, Matt White won the draw and sent the puck back to Matt Clune at the edge of the circle. Clune sent a crisp pass to the tape of Eric Springer’s stick. From the point, Springer wristed a laser beam shot through traffic and past the glove of Brossoit to win the game 3-2 for Ontario. The score marked the defenseman’s first professional goal.

Hutchinson earned his 22nd win of the season with 18 saves; Brossoit took the loss with 23 saves.
