STOCKTON, Calif. – The Ontario Reign extended their point streak to 10 games, tying a club record, picking up the 3-2 overtime win over the Stockton Thunder before a crowd of 2,453 at Stockton Arena on Wednesday night.
The Reign got on the board late in the first period following a power-play goal from Matt White at 18:01. White took a cross-ice feed from Sacha Guimond and beat Stockton netminder Brian Foster glove-side for his 21st of the season. Olivier Dame-Malka picked up the secondary assist on White’s tally.
Stockton drew level early in the second period, when Riley Wetmore jammed home a shot following a rebound that Jussi Olkinuora had initially stopped at 2:20, with Joe Diamond getting the assist. The Thunder then took the lead at 7:44, when Ryan Hayes collected his own rebound off a feed from Diamond, and then lifted a backhand above a sprawled Olkinuora.
Lane Scheidl brought Ontario back into the game midway through the third period with an unassisted breakaway goal at 12:14, as the rookie forward’s shot carried enough momentum to sneak underneath the pads of Foster. The goal was Scheidl’s first in a Reign uniform.
In overtime, Maxim Kitsyn would fire a shot from the high slot that beat Foster for the winning score. Kitsyn’s goal was his 13th of the season, and fifth game-winning goal.
With the victory, Ontario tied a club record for the longest unbeaten streak, originally set during the 2009-10 season.
Olkinuora picked up the win with 38 stops; Foster took the loss with 32 saves.
