Red Wings outman Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Blue Jackets fell victims yet again to the Detroit Red Wings and their stellar defense Tuesday night in a 4-1 victory in the first-ever playoff game held at Columbus’ home-ice Nationwide Arena. Tomas Holmstrom opened the scoring early in the first period on a rebound shot on Blue Jackets’ goalie Steve Mason.   Dan Cleary finished out the period with an impressive spin around goal. Henrik Zetterberg netted two goals in the lop-sided contest, while BJ Umberger scored the Blue Jackets’ lone goal of the night.

The talk of the night was a magnificent hit delivered by Detroit’s Brad Stuart, with Columbus’ Umberger being the recipient.

Stars of the game included Dan Cleary with one goal and two assists on the night.   Chris Osgood was #2 star with a .969 save percentage, having only allowed two goals in the past three games against Columbus.

Mason only faced 26 shots on goal, while Detroit’s Osgood stopped 31 out of 32 shots.
