Rangers edge Flyers 3-2 in Winter Classic

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers battled it out in a well played Winter Classic in Citizens bank Part as the Rangers edged out the Flyers 3-2 in South Philadelphia.
The Flyers let a two goal lead slip away and the Rangers took advantage of the situation in a contest between two of the better teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Flyers Claude Giroux scores the first goal of the game.

Brayden Schenn and Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers while Mike Rupp scored twice and Brad Richards scored the game winner for the blueshirts. Schenn’s goal was scored off a bound and Giroux scored on a nice backhander 1:55 apart in the second period, but Rupp’s first goal in the night came 30 seconds after Giroux’s goal to get the Rangers quickly back in the game. It turned out to be the most important goal since the Rangers came back for the win.
Henrik Lundqvist was easily the Rangers best player as the Flyers outshot the Rangers over the first two periods 26-17, but the Rangers outshot the Flyers 16-10 in the third period.
Once the Rangers got the lead New York bored the 46,967 in attendance into a frozen stupor by dumping the puck into the Flyers end of the ice the rest of the night until the Flyers put on some late pressure during a power play.

A penalty shot was called on the Rangers Ryan McDonagh with 19.6 left in the game. Danny Briere took the penalty shot and tried going five hole on Lundqvist but he was denied the chance to be the hero.
The Boston Bruins remain the only team in Winter Classic History to win the Classic as the home team.
