ROMFORD,U.K- English Premier leauge outfit Romford Raiders have confirmed their netminding tandem for the coming season with the signing of youngsters Euan King and Joe Myers.
King 20, joins the Raiders from treble-winning Peterborough Phantoms in the hope of securing a starting spot. The talented netminder first suited up for the Phantoms in the English Premier League in the 2003-04 season and has been Phantoms backup for the last three seasons, behind experienced goalies Stephen Wall and Gregg Rockman. King has also been part of the Team GB junior setup since the age of 13. King is joined by 22 year-old Joe Myers from Elite League Cardiff Devils. Myers was developed through the Cardiff youth system and, like King, has been his team’s backup for the past three seasons, playing behind standout import netminders Phil Osaer and Peter Aubry. He has played in several games for the Devils when the starters have been injured and has proven to be solid and dependable even at the UK’s top level. A Romford spokesman said: “With no disrespect to the people who’ve gone before, it’s been a while since we’ve had two legitimate contenders for starting netminder but we definitely have now. Coaches love it, goalies don’t but we’re very excited and it’s definitely good for the team. “Both guys have had a terrific grounding at their old clubs but have a burning desire to be number one. Euan and Joe, Joe and Euan, there’s no particular order and they’re both very welcome additions to the Raiders’ roster.” The news means that Romford’s netminder for the previous three seasons, Carl Ambler, has left the club due to receiving a better offer elsewhere, and strong rumours are linking him to the Bracknell Bees. Other players that will not be returning to the Raiders this season include British defensemen Tyrone Miller, Mark Williams and Dan Wright, as well as import forward Mark Stewart. It has also been announced in the past week that Romford Raiders will be icing a team in the English National League 2 South Division this season. The team will be named Romford Fury, and head coach will be Romford youth product and netminder Alan Blyth. The team will replace the Romford Spitfires, who ceased to exist with the exit of the previous Romford management team. The Raiders roster is shaping up now, with more announcements due next Friday.
