BROOMFIELD, CO – The Rage used a balanced scoring threat and some solid goaltending from Scott Reid to pull off a minor upset in this first game of the Northern Conference opening round of the CHL playoffs. Four different Rage players netted goals and the ‘Bugs had no answer for Reid’s stellar play in the nets. Kevin Cooper picked up this second goal of the game at 16:34 of the third period to cut the deficit to 4-3. Joe Blaznek assisted on three Bugs’ goals and played well in the loss. Ken Carroll started the game and yielded three goals on 10 shots and was relieved by Jon Horrell near the midway mark of the second period. Horrell settled the Bugs down in their defensive zone and gave the team a spark throughout the rest of the game. The real story of the game was the shot differential. The Rage managed a paltry 19 shots on goal while the ‘Bugs were shelling Reid for the entire night. Reid fa ced a blizzard of rubber in 52 shots but was equal to the task on 49 of them. The problem for the Bugs was their dismal 1 for 8 on the power play while the Rage picked up two goals on five power plays. A crowd of 1,974 saw the Rage take the series lead and witness the superhero efforts of Scott Reid in net. Game 2 of the series is in Bossier City where Scott Muscutt will have his troops ready for another barrage of shots and try to solve the mystery of Scott Reid. Want to write for Pro Hockey News?
