After scoreless first period where the Remparts had to defend themselves four times with a man short, they were able to get back in their dressing room without any damage.
“Charley was the one who kept us in this series,” answered Remparts head coach Patrick Roy to a question about his team goaltender performance.” “Tonight he was simply exceptional in first period; he kept us in the game during four penalties against us. We found a way to kill those penalties. It was clear that our best player on our penalty kill was our goaltender. He did it for us and it was key moment for us to stay in the game.”

Getting the first goal helped
Even if
“The game resume in our power play that wasn’t efficient, we were little nervous at the beginning of the game. On the other end their power play worked again,” said Durocher. “We will have to work on our power play because when we play five-on-five, we can play them, we already proved it. Tonight we had our scoring chances but we weren’t able to capitalize on it. It’s another good game tonight; we know what we have to do. We will be back tomorrow and give all we got.”
To a question from a reporter related to the missing offense from
Joey Haddad who was possibly the best forward on Cape Breton side had this to say, about his team performance, “I though we had pretty good game, we definitely had our chances, you have some games when you seem to do everything except putting the puck in the net,” “It came on special unit again, they got couple power play goals and we didn’t scored.”
Talking about
Playing without one of your best player on offence didn’t help but it wasn’t an excuse. Robert Slaney who was injured in game two (possibly a concussion) didn’t played since game three, he was in uniform in game six but stayed on the bench all night. “I guess anytime you lose a guy you used to play with that make little different, me Slaney playing on power play we played together for last couple month, you really get used to play with someone but it wasn’t big difference.” Said Haddad.
With the score 1-0 Quebec the visitor began to put more pressure in the offensive zone but again Remparts goaltender refused to concede anything making other key saves to preserve Quebec lead.
A penalty with less than four minute to play to
Kelsey Tessier completed Remparts offensive for the night with his second of the night at 18:42 in an empty net.
“Yes we are really happy but now we don’t have to think about it anymore and think about tomorrow game,” said Tessier author of two goals for Patrick Roy’s team. “Perhaps it our best game tonight but we are the one who put ourselves in that situation so, tomorrow will be the biggest test. We played as a team, we played with lots of intensity, we were in a do or die situation.”
Both teams will get back on the ice Tuesday night with the winning team earning the privilege of continuing the other to be eliminated.
