Quebec trounces Cape Breton 7-1

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — The Quebec Remparts began their Atlantic road trip on a good note in a dominating win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Michael McNamee and Alexandre Contois with 2 goals 1 assist each, led Quebec offense.

Quebec got things going with the first two goals of the game. First was Michael McNamee who took a rebound from Adam Erne and surprised Philippe Trudeau at 10:45.

A penalty to former Remparts player Kyle Campbell gave Quebec the chance to play with a man advantage. Scoring 33 goals in 133 power plays opportunities before the game (27.7 percent) Quebec added a second goal with 6:37 remaining in the period. Contois beat the Screaming Eagles netminder between his pads on a goal that Trudeau would certainly would like back.

After allowing 2 goals on Quebec first 7 shots, the Cape Breton head coach Ron Choules had seen enough pulling his starting goalie in favor of young 16-year-old Jacob Fancy.

Quebec continued where they left off in the first period scoring four goals in the second period on 12 shots taking a comfortable 6-0 lead. Caught on a bad change, the Screaming Eagles saw Quebec center McNamee score his second of the night at 8:51.

Frederick Roy scored Quebec’s fourth goal on a perfect pass from teammate Mikael Tam with 10:39 remaining in middle frame.

Already is 1-in-3 with a man advantage, Quebec adds a fifth goal on their fourth power play opportunities. Left almost alone since getting into the game, the Screaming Eagles netminder did not have any chance on Adam Erne one-timer following a great pass from veteran right winger Roy at 15:16 of middle frame.
Remparts defenseman Ryan Culkin complete the scoring in second period with Quebec sixth goal 1:39 later when his wrist shot went high on Fancy’s left side.

Quebec center Contois welcomed Trudeau back to the game in the third period beating the Blainville Quebec native high on his left side with a wrist shot at 10:52.

Blocking all Screaming Eagles shots against him (22 shots), the Quebec netminder Francois Brassard lost his first junior career shutout with 1:55 remaining in the game. A missed communication between Quebec netminder and center Patrick Walsh gave the chance to Cape Breton right winger Logan Shaw to push the puck in an empty net preventing Cape Breton of been shutout.

Quebec next game will be this Saturday facing Nathan MacKinnon and the Halifax Mosseheads.
