QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — In a prelude of what could be the first round match up in the QMJHL, the Quebec Remparts won 5-3 over the Victoriaville Tigres. Led offensively by veteran forward Logan Shaw (1g-2a) Quebec took a serious option on the game with four goals in the first period.
Quebec opened the scoring on a five-on-three power play. Veteran forward Logan Shaw was the first Quebec player to put a puck behind Victoriaville goalie Brandon Whitney when he took a rebound shot from Adam Erne and pushed it behind the Tigres goalie at 9:38. Anthony Beaulieu and Carl-Antoine Delisle were in the penalty box for Victoriaville.
Quebec added two more goals in less than a minute another one with a power play this time on five-on-four. Quebec defenseman Martin Lefebvre made it 2-0 on even strength with a shot from the blue line on great pass from Brent Turnbull at 13:40.
Playing with a man advantage Frederic Bergeron took a rebound from center Kurt Etchegary and beat Victoriaville netminder at 14:21 with defenseman Sawyer Hannay in the penalty box.
The last goal in the period came on a rebound taken in front of Tigres goalie Whitney after he made the initial save on Alexandre Boivin. Unable to keep the puck Whitney saw Anthony Verret push the puck between the Tigres goalie’s pads at 16:39.
Trailing by four to begin the second the home team decided to add some toughness but as neither team was able to score, whether to cut Quebec leads or for Quebec to add to their already 4-0 lead, the middle frame ended with no goals scored.
Looking for a partner to drop the gloves since the first period in hope of changing something in the game Victoriaville defenseman Sawyer Hannay finally found a partner in person of Dillon Donnelly. As the fight seemed pretty even, it seemed to give some energy to the home team that finally broke the ice with 12:50 to go in third period.
Already 0-in-5 with a man advantage in the game Victoriaville get on the board on their sixth power play opportunity. Philippe Maillet with his 25th of the regular season, beat Francois Brassard with a wrist shot at 7:10 of third period.
Quebec had killed 13 consecutive shorthanded situations before the Victoriaville defenseman beat Quebec netminder.
Nick Sorensen gave Quebec their four goal lead with his second effort with 8:24 left in the third period taking his own rebound to put the puck behind Tigres netminder.
Victoriaville scored their second goal with a man advantage with 4:41 to go in the game when Philippe Hudon took a rebound and push the puck behind Brassard. Angelo Miceli scored Victoriaville third and last goal in the game. Coming from behind the net the Tigres center surprised Quebec goalie to his left with 4:03 remaining.
