Quebec opens road trip with 5-2 victory over Rouyn-Noranda

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — The Quebec Remparts left Quebec for their next two games on the road with the first stop in Rouyn-Noranda playing the Huskies. Quebec defenseman Owen Werthner scored the game winning goal off a perfect pass from Mikhail Grigorenko. Wertner’s goal was the tenth game winning goal by a defenseman (Quebec has 15 victories on the season).

Quebec opened the scoring with two goals in two minutes. Playing on the fourth line Raphael Corriveau netted Quebec’s first goal 2:06 into the game taking a rebound and firing a backhand under goaltender Robin Gusse’s right pad. Quebec came back two minutes later when Grigorenko’s wrist shot eluded the Huskies netminder at 4:06.

Rouyn-Noranda replied tying the score 2- 2 in less than 2:00. Dillon Fournier broke the ice for the Huskies on a two-on-one breakaway, waiting as long as he could before letting his shot go and finding an empty net at 5:40. Wanting to play the puck, the Quebec netminder had been fooled by a bad bounce.

The Huskies tied the game two all 1:58 later when another bad bounce turned in favor of Rouyn-Noranda. Anthony Verret scored his fourth of the year, Jason Houde and Steven Mercier got the helpers with 12:22 remaining in the opening period.

Only one goal was scored in middle frame. Having the opportunity to take a shot on Huskies goaltender the Quebec center Grigorenko decided to go behind the net before making a perfect pass to Werthner whose shot from the blue line got behind Rouyn-Noranda goal at 6:47.

Thinking they had tied the game at three Rouyn-Noranda, referee Eric Charron needed video review to confirm the Huskies had not scored with 4:02 remaining in the second period.

Good for forechecking by Quebec left winger Kurt Etchegary led to the Remparts’ fourth goal, the second goal scored by Quebec fourth line in the game. Patrick Walsh (the first round selection 14th overall in 2010) beat the Huskies netminder between his pads at 5:18.

Anthony Duclair scored Quebec’s fifth goal making a great move from left to right only had to put the puck in an empty net at 12:14 of third period.
