Quebec Loses in Victoriaville, 6-3

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — ‘All good things must come to an end,’ says an old axiom. That’s what happened to the Remparts when they lost by the score of 6-3 against Tigres on Friday.
 
The goal that made the difference came from the stick of Victoriaville center Philippe Maillet who beat Quebec goaltender Jimmy Appleby, sliding the puck between the left post and Appleby’s pad at 18:27 of second period. Victoriaville had the lead 4-1 after two periods.
 
The Tigres began the game on a strong note scoring the first two goals in the game. Guillaume Goulet 3:20 into first period and Philip Dannault 11:37 put the puck behind Quebec goaltender giving the home team a two goals lead.
 
But before the period ended Quebec cut the Victoriaville lead in half during a power play.
 
With Victoriaville center Yanni Gourde in the penalty box for hooking, Remparts defenseman Vincent Barnard beat Tigres goaltender Antonio Mastropietro with a blast from the blueline at 15:01. Victoriaville held a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes and leading in shots on goal, 11-9.
 
Victoriaville came back in second adding two more goals. Carl-Antoine Delisle at 14:56 and then Maillet’s at 18:27 in second period giving Tigres a three goal lead.
 
Quebec came back scoring two goals in 0:49 seconds giving their fans who made the road trip to Victoriaville some hope.
 
Mirko Hoefflin, with his fourth of the season 0:27 seconds into the third period reduced Victoriaville lead to two goals and former Tigres center Joel Champagne 1:16 cut the Victoriaville lead to one.
 
The killing goal for Victoriaville came on a penalty shot following a slashing from a Quebec player on Philip Danault preventing Tigres left winger a good scoring opportunity.
 
The referee saw the slash and awarded the penalty shot to Victoriaville’s Dannault who did not miss his opportunity and beat Appleby for Tigres fifth goal in the game at 9:41 of third period.
 
Goulet with his second of the game scored Victoriaville sixth goal of the game the insurance goal at 14:16.
 
Quebec won’t have too much time to think about their first loss in regulation as they will be back in action Saturday, hosting the Prince Edward Island Rocket, in second of a three games in three nights weekend.
 
The Remparts will be back in action on Sunday afternoon hosting the Moncton Wildcats.
