PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND – Playing in Prince Edward Island facing the Rocket to end three games in four nights in the Maritimes the Quebec Remparts returned home with 3-1 win over the last team in the QMJHL standings. Quebec’s record on the road is 13-9, winning 14 of their last 17 and 23 in last 32. With the victory over the Prince Edward Island, combined with Saint John’s loss (8-3) against Chicoutimi, Quebec is only two points behind the Sea Dogs (first overall) but the Remparts still has two games in hand. Francois Brassard who stood the crease for Quebec made 38 saves on 39 PEI shots for his 10th wins. Quebec opened the scoring in Prince Edward Island with 14:38 remaining in the first period. Losing the puck at his own blue line, PEI defenseman Ryan Grave saw Quebec right winger Adam Erne, going on a breakaway, sliding the puck between Rocket netminder Maxime Lagace’s pads with a backhanded shot at even strength. The best scoring chance for Prince Edward Island came also on breakaway by Victor Provencher. Unfortunately for Rocket fans, Quebec goaltender made the save. PEI ended the first period with 15 shots on goal, Quebec got 13. After missing a great scoring opportunity on a two-on-one breakaway when Michael McNamee had been forced to shoot instead of passing to Erne by Rocket defenseman Thomas Pavelka, Quebec takes a 2-0 lead thanks to Mathieu Lavallee’s first goal of the year 5:48 into the second period. Prince Edward Island center Ben Duffy scored Rocket first goal deflecting a shot from Matej Beran between Brassard’s pads breaking Quebec netminder bid for his first career shutout in junior at 14:36. Already been shutout in their first two attempts with a man advantage, Quebec (third best power plays in the league before the game with 28 percent with 35-in-125) regained their two goals lead during a penalty to Rocket forwards Olivier Croteau who had been penalized for delay of game. Alexandre Contois one-timer did not give any chance to Lagace at 17:17. Neither team scored in the third period. Quebec’s next two games will be Friday December 9 hosting the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, and Sunday the Val-d’Or Foreurs will be the visitors.
