Quebec edges Lewiston 7-1

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Leaving Quebec for the next two games in Lewiston on Friday and Saturday, the Remparts faced an important weekend playing the MAINEiacs. With two wins Quebec can almost settle the battle for the Tellus East Division with an 11-point lead over Lewiston. Before Friday night’s game, Quebec had a seven point lead. Led offensively by veteran Joel Champagne (1g-3a) Quebec scored two goals in each period in the first of two games in the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Frederick Roy (1g-2a), Mirko Hoefflin (0g-3a) also played solid in the win.

Quebec played a strong first period scoring two goals in the opening period, shooting 11 times on Lewiston goaltender. John Audy-Marchessault surprised Lewiston’s Nicolas Champion between his pads with a wraparound coming from behind the net.

A great forchecking effort by Frederick Roy and Mirko Hoefflin forced an offensive turnover giving Vincent Montreuil a chance to score the Remparts second goal at 13:51.

Quebec added two goals in the second, taking a 4-0 lead. Having some difficulties lately with their power play Quebec scored their third goal on their second power play opportunity. Roy deflected a wrist shot by Vincent Barnard from the point beating Lewiston netminder between his pads for second time in the game at 11:37.

A bad rebound by Champion led to Olivier Hinse’s 7th goal of the season. Unable to control the rebound MAINEiacs netminder saw Quebec right winger Alexandre Grenier repaired Joel Champagne who made great pass to Hinse for Quebec fourth goals in the game at 12:45.

Etienne Brodeur prevented Quebec goaltender Louis Domingue’s shutout bid with a shorthanded goal. With Zachary Shannon in the box for tripping 13 seconds into the third period, Brodeur beat Domingue with a backhanded shot.

Quebec regained their four goal lead with Ryan Bourque’s 25th of the regular season. Hoefflin and Roy got the helpers at 9:20.

Champagne scored Quebec’s sixth goal of the game hitting the puck in the air at 13:41.

Quebec captain Mikael Tam completed Quebec offense scoring Remparts seventh goal of the game deflecting a shot taken by Champagne at 17:54 with a man advantage.

Both teams will face each other again on Saturday (tonight) in second games in as many nights.

Losing debut for Carboneau;
After firing General Manager and head coach Richard Martel last Friday, Guy Carboneau, took the head coaching job of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

The former NHL defensive specialist decided to step behind Chicoutimi bench making his debut last Wednesday in Val-d’Or against the Foreurs. Carboneau who also is the co-owner of the franchise saw his players lose against the Foreurs 5-2.

Inconsistency seems the main word to resume Chicoutimi players’ effort that night, where the team was able to score only twice in that game. Jonathan Bonneau was the first Sagueneens to score tying the game at one all after Anthony Taylor beaks the ice for Val-d’Or.

Consecutive goals by Conor Gagnon and Jonathan Hazen gave 3-1 lead to Val-d’Or. But with 18 seconds remaining in the opening period Guillaume Asselin reduced Foreurs lead to only one goal.

Anthony Taylor with his second goal of the game in the second period and Olivier Archambeault in third periods seal the fate of Carboneau’s team that night.

The Montreal Canadiens former head coach has the chance to win his first game tonight (Friday) visiting the Huskies in Rouyn-Noranda.
