QMJHL Telus three stars of the week

QUEBEC CITY , P.Q. — Following the first week of action, the QMJHL announced what they called their Telus three stars.

The Victoriaville Tigres’ forward Philippe Maillet earned the first star after QMJHL first weekend of action ending with 9 points on 6 goals and 3 assists in the first two games over the weekend against Quebec and Rimouski.

Maillet recorded five of his six goals in the game against the Oceanic in Rimouski on Sunday, that represented a record no other Victoriaville player has ever been able to do in the last 10 years. Maillet and his teammate Yanni Gourde became only the 12th and 13th players in Victoriaville history to do so.

With no surprise, the QMJHL gave the second stars to Gourde totaling 10 points on 2 goals and 8 assists over the weekend. Maillet teammate ended his weekend with a +/- of -7.

The Acadie-Bathurst Titans left winger Zach O’Brien earned QMJHL third star with 9 points scoring three goals in a 8-1 victory against last year Memorial Cup Champion the Saint John Sea Dogs last Friday adding two additional goals against Halifax on Saturday in a 7-3 win.

In a press release published on their website, the QMJHL confirmed a trade between the PEI Rocket and the Drummondville Voltigeurs. The Rocket traded Jean-Sebastien Fournier to the Voltigeurs. In return, PEI got a second round pick in 2012. Fournier who began the 2010-11 regular season in Cape Breton played 70 games scoring 41 goals before his right being traded to PEI where he added 29 goals.
