QMJHL teams active before trading deadline

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — The QMJHL league confirmed a total of eleven trades before what was the first QMJHL trade deadline on August 22nd before the regular season begins.

The day began with the announcement of a trade between the Acadie-Bathurst Titans and the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. The Titans sent right winger Yan Pinette to Chicoutimi for defenseman Sean Girard. Pinette who began the 2010-11 regular season with the Gatineau Olympiques (5g-8a-13pts in 30 games) saw his rights traded to Accadie Bathurst for a second round pick in 2011 (acquired from Drummondville) on December 27 2010. With Bathurst the Levis Quebec native cumulated (11g-9a-20) in 31 games.

Girard, for his part, began the 2010-11 season with the Rouyn Noranda Huskies before being traded to Chicoutimi in a four-player transaction. With the Huskies prior to coming to Chicoutimi, the Laval native ended with 8 assists in 36 games. With Chicoutimi the 6’02” 190 pound only had 2 assists in 22 games.

The second trade saw the Moncton Wildcats sending right winger Cedric Leblanc   to Quebec Remparts. In return, the Wildcats got a third round selection in 2012. Looking for a player able to play tough, able to step in when the kitchen will become hot (dropping the gloves when needed), Remparts GM Patrick Roy thinks he found his answer in former Moncton right winger.

Being confronted to make a decision with respect to his goaltenders, with Louis Domingue as number one, and three good backup netminders, Roy felt he needed to make a move.

With Jimmy Appleby, Francis Brassard and Derek Clavet doing very well in training camp, the Quebec GM decided to pull the trigger, sending last year backup Appleby to Baie-Comeau Drakkar. In return, the Remparts received the rights to goaltender Gabriel Carignan (93-06-28) and a 2nd round in 2013.

Due to personal problems (death of a member of his family) Carignan never reported to Baie-Comeau.

In another trade, the Gatineau Olympiques sent goaltender Antoine Bibeau to Prince Edward Island Rocket. In return, Gatineau received a fourth round pick in 2013.

Quebec made another move sending veteran 20-year-old defenseman Guillaume Rousseau to Gatineau Olympiques for a 8th round picks previously belonging to Drummondville Voltigeurs in 2012.

Giving up one of their 8th round picks in 2012 Gatineau turned on the other side making another trade, this time with former Montreal Junior now the Blainville Boisbriand Armada, grabbing another 8th round pick in 2013 for defenseman Olivier Picard.

The seventh trade of the morning saw Baie-Comeau Drakkar sending right winger Simon Darveau (92-07-21) to Victoriaville Tigres for an eight round pick in 2013.

Chicoutimi Sagueneens sent Danick Emond for a fifth round pick in 2013.

The Rimouski Oceanic and the Shawinigan Cataractes were involved in traded number 9th on Monday morning when the Oceanic defenseman Guillaume Gelinas to Shawinigan for center Jean-Francois Plante.

In the 10th trade of the morning, Chicoutimi sent right winger Rock Regimbald to the Gatineau Olympuques for a 7th round in 2013.

In the last few minutes before clock ticked to 10:00 AM, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada sent (Montreal Canadiens Prospect) Louis Leblanc to the Shawinigan Cataractes. In return Shawinigan sent center Cole Hawes.
