QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — After playing intra-squad games for first three or four days, in a majority of teams it will now become more interesting with exhibitions games.
Trying to impress the coaching staff and earn the chance to play in exhibitions games, rookie players of different QMJHL teams need to prove to themselves and to the coaches they have earned the right to wear the official jersey of their respective teams.
The QMJHL league launched his pre-season schedule with seven games on Friday night followed by eight others on Saturday.
The schedule for tonight games is
Saint John vs. Moncton
Prince Edward Island vs. Acadie-Bathurst
Blainville Boisbrillant vs. Drummondville
Chicoutimi vs. Baie-Comeau
Quebec vs. Rimouski
Val-d’Or vs. Rouyn-Noranda
Victoriaville vs. Shawinigan
In Quebec, what was believed to be a close case in the Matthew Peca situation is not quite over yet? After being claimed by the Kitchener Ranger and then released as they were unable to convince the Petawawa, Ontario native to play with them, it seems that another OHL team claimed the rights to the youngster, but no one wants to let Quebec Remparts GM and head coach Patrick Roy, know which OHL team claimed Peca. Roy didn’t seem to be able to get any answer, from anyone.
So Roy asked his team President, Mr. Claude Rousseau to explore if they can’t obtain an answer via the team’s attorney. Stay tuned for more details as they become available
In Baie-Comeau, the team reduced their player’s personnel from 43 to 33, giving their ticket back home to 10 players. One of them, is former Quebec Remparts Dominic Beauchemin. To this number (33), add Raphael Bussieres, Europeens Lucas Cingel, Tomas Filippi and Felix Girard who came back from the under 18 Canadian National team that was recently crowned at the latest international tournament.
Back on August 3rd, the QMJHL announced they had come to terms with league on-ice officials. In a QMJHL press release, the QMJHL Commissioner Mr. Gilles Courteau, confirmed the league signed a four years agreement with his league officials. The term of the new contract were similar to those listed in the previous agreement that expired in 2010-11 playoffs.
“We were able to reach an equitable agreement with all of the league’s official,” Courteau said in the press release. “The negotiations were conducted with the support and contributions of a number of officials representing the different divisions of the league including Daniel Bechard, Christian Boudreau, Serge Carpentier, Nicholas Dutil, Francois Fortin and Tim Hamel.”
The QMJHL Director of official Mr. Richard Trottier was very happy with the new content, “We have reached a good agreement, the league has done a good job. Respect and communication between the parties contributed to the success of this long process. I’m certain the league’s officials are satisfied with the new agreement.”
