BETHPAGE, NY – Chris Riley continues his discussions with Matt Herr of American Development Model. The talk opens with Herr’s work as a coach in the development camp and the kids’ reaction to him as a former NHL player.
“They listen at first,” Herr said. “Then they go on about the camp.”
For Herr, the most important part of camp and hockey training is the academic component.
“You (Riley) and I have careers because we have an academic background,” Herr said during this segment. “We have lives after hockey and kids need to have that same opportunity.”
This interview is important for every parent and aspiring young hockey player in knowing that athletics and academics must go hand-in-hand.
