STOCKTON, CA – Several ECHL players are preparing to board planes to the City of Reading, Pennsylvania to play in the 17th Annual ECHL All-Star Game on Jan 21st in the Sovereign Center. Defenseman Kenny MacAulay of the Stockton Thunder is one of the National Conference ECHL All-Stars.
Kenny MacAulay spent the first part of the season on the Fresno Falcons, until they ceased operations in late December. The 25 year old MacAulay is a 5’10″, 193 pound defenseman from Baddeck, Nova Scotia. This years All-Star game will be his second consecutive selection. MacAulay also represented Fresno in the 2008 games held
in Stockton California. MacAulay is ranked in seventh among all ECHL defensemen with 23 points (3 goals, 20 assists) in 38 total games. As a member of the Stockton Thunder, MacAulay joined his former Falcons Head Coach Matt Thomas, and has been named alternate captain. “MacAulay is a guy that plays at both ends of the ice, the way the game is supposed to be played; physical, with speed and passion,” Thomas said. MacAuley spoke to PHN on making the All-Star team before heading on a place to Reading. “It is a great honor, certainly not only for me, but my teammates and coaching staff too. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be in this position. The coaches give me opportunities to succeed. Without my teammates I wouldn’t be able to do what I do” says MacAulay about the announcement earlier this month.
MacAulay went on to say that last month felt like a roller-coaster ride, but he’s is very happy to be a member of the Thunder and said the transition from being on the team of the Thunder’s main rival, to being a member of the Thunder hasn’t been difficult. “That’s the great thing about hockey players. We leave it on the ice. We are a special breed; we just put everything behind us and move forward.” MacAulay’s game against Idaho prior to the All-Star break marked his 99th professional game, and is scheduled to participate in a few of the pre-game skills competitions. “I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be fun.” Contact the author at shellie.lima@prohockeynews.com Contact the photographer at jack.lima@prohockeynews.com
