Photo essay: Flyers and Bolts mix it up

PHILADELPHIA, Pa – The Flyers are humming along this season and preparing for the Winter Classic on January 2nd.   But the work at hand is gaining the top spot in the conference over cross-state rival Pittsburgh and the New York Rangers (their outdoor game opponent).

This week the Tampa Bay Lightning came calling to Philadelphia and put on quite a show.   The Flyers used a three-goal second period to extend their current winning streak to five games.

On the other side, the Bolts their sixth in seven games and a players-only meeting was held immediately after the game.   Tampa Bay is in danger of becoming irrelevant in the standings and their efforts on the ice are clearly not competitive with the rest of the conference.

The Flyers’ Claude Giroux left the game with a head injury after an inadvertent knee to the helmet caused him to go down.   The latest report from the Flyers is that Giroux has a concussion and will be sidelined indefinitely.

The following are some images from the match.
