CHARLOTTE, NC – In this photo essay, Pro Hockey News photographer John Nelson was in position for the all the game and extracurricular activity between the Charlotte Checkers and Adirondack Phantoms. On the night of the game, March22nd, the Checkers held down the 4th position in the Eastern Division standings while the Phantoms were in possession of 8th place.
The first period started with the Phantoms making at strong run at the Checkers.
There were several attacks on th e Checkers goal in the first period but no points on the board.
The Checkers were on the board first with 7:42 left in the first period by Mike McKenzie.
The Phantoms answered with their own goal. Several major incidents highlighted an intense game by these two teams.
There were three game penalties handed out and many 5 minute penalties as well. As a result of the penalties, the Phantoms were forced to defend their goal against 11 Checkers power plays.
The Checkers went on to score four more times while the Phantoms could only put the puck in goal once more with the game ending 5-2 Checkers.
The win put the Checkers back in 3rd place in their division. Next up at home for the Checkers are the Norfolk Admirals on the March 27th.
