Phoenix Thrash Tigers

MANCHESTER, UK – MICHAL Psurny grabbed a hat-trick and laid on four more as Manchester Phoenix hammered Telford Tigers 10-2 on Thursday . The sharp-shooter took his season’s tally to 23 in the rout which saw his side pull to within three points of table topping Basingstoke. He picked off a poor Tigers’ pass in the sixth minute to set the ball rolling and despite a quick Telford reply they were never in the hunt. Psurny’s second came in the 10th minute and the hat-trick six minutes later as he latched on to Joachim Flatten’s handiwork. And Phoenix effectively won the game in the 17th minute as player-coach Tony Hand made it 4-1 with a low strike. Ondrej Pozivil and Tom Duggan sandwiched a Tigers’ consolation to have it a 6-2 on 25 minutes, and further goals from Flatten and Bari Mckenzie – his first for the club – continued the blowout. The third period saw the Tigers shut up shop and begin to make checks, but Luke Boothroyd’s powerplay goal and Hand’s second of the night completed the scoring. Phoenix will face trickier tests this weekend with a trip to Sheffield tomorrow (7.30pm) before they host Bracknell on Sunday (5.30pm). To contact the author email: Mike.Appleton@prohockeynews.com
