Phoenix spook Phantoms to stay second

MANCHESTER, UK – MANCHESTER Phoenix fired seven goals to keep up the pressure at the top of the English Premier League and secure a Cup Semi Final place. Despite missing talismanic player-coach Tony Hand who was away with the national team, they beat Peterborough Phantoms 7-5 on Saturday. But that work was almost undone when they suffered a 4-1 reverse at bottom of the table Telford Tigers last night. Scott McKenzie tallied the only goal as Phoenix struggled to get any form of attack going. On Saturday, Phoenix made it eight on the bounce at home with a nervy 7-5 victory over Peterborough Phantoms. Braces from Robert Schnabel and Andy McKinney, complemented by Joachim Flatten’s 14th of the season,  gave them a 5-1 lead at the end of the second. But the Phantoms fought their way back into it until James Archer’s late marker sealed the win – Ciaran Long adding Phoenix’ other goal. Manchester remain second on goal difference as table-topping Basingstoke lost to Guildford. To contact the author email: Mike.Appleton@prohockeynews.com
