Phoenix aim to swat Bees

MANCHESTER, UK – MANCHESTER Phoenix continue their push for the English Premier League title with a ‘double-header’ against Bracknell. They host the sixth-placed Bees tomorrow (Saturday 7pm) before travelling to Berkshire on Sunday (6pm). Phoenix gained one point from a possible four last weekend and that sees them in third place, three points behind Guildford Flames at the top. But they’ve beaten the Bees in all three meetings this season scoring 18 goals in the process. Bracknell have won their last three matches though and in netminders in Tom Annetts and Carl Ambler, who share the number 1 spot, they can be difficult to break down. Martin Masa and Lukas Smital are in hot form and British forward Shaun Thompson has contributed with 23 goals. “This weekend will again be a tough one but we are looking to take the points to keep the pressure on the teams above us,” Phoenix’ player-coach Tony Hand MBE said. “I thought we played well in Basingstoke and could have got something from the game but on Sunday we looked tired and Peterborough, fresh from a night off, made it very difficult for us and took the win.” To contact the author email: Mike.Appleton@prohockeynews.com
