MONTREAL – Perhaps the number one pick has not been in question this late in the process since the 2006 NHL draft when the St. Louis Blues needed to decide if Erik Johnson would be their man.
That draft featured Johnson, Jordan Staal and Jonathan Toews and if the draft were to be held again it is unlikely Johnson would be the man.
A scenario such as this might develop again.
John Taveras has been the talk of this draft for years, but there are observers who believe both Victor Hedman and Matt Duchene will prove to be the better NHL players in the long run.
