PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – In a thrilling third period the Arizona Sundogs secured their 32nd win closing out the regular season 32-27-7. The Sundogs took the battle to the end posting three goals in the final period lifting them to a 5-3 win over the Wichita Thunder Saturday night at Tim’s Toyota Center in front of 4,535 fans.
Wichita immediately put Arizona on the defense when Matt Summers scored only 43 seconds into the first period. Despite trailing more than halfway through the opening period the Sundogs gained the lead going into the second at 12:59 when Matt McCready scored from Jason Morgan and Shawn Limpright. With less than two minutes to go in the first, Bryan Cameron posted an unassisted goal.
Thunder posted two more goals putting Wichita on top after 40 minutes of play. Their first came 5:10 into the frame from Tomas Klempa while on the man-advantage after Michael Forney was called for roughing sending him to the box for two minutes. Summers scored his second of the night at 13:35 with Jarkko Leppanen and Andrew Martens collecting the assists.
Down by a goal at the beginning of the third period Arizona rallied posting three goals lifting them to a 5-3 win. Paul Mcilveen quickly found the back of the net 14 seconds into the final period. Six minutes later Coccimiglio tallied a goal from David Rutherford and Mcilveen and 33 seconds after that Limpright came in solidifying their victory. Mcilveen tallied his third point of the night and Tom Maxwell also received credit for the assist.
Adam Brown received the decision for the Sundogs blocking 24 shots. Arizona outshot Wichita 46-27. The Sundogs blanked on the power play while the Thunder were 1-5 on the power play.
