INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – On Saturday, the Rapid City Rush received a strong team effort in a 4-3 win over the Missouri Mavericks in their lone visit to the Independence Events Center.
Missouri was the first to light the lamp when defenseman Jamie VanderVeeken wristed a shot from the left point that made its way through a screen and past Tim Boron at the 12:30 mark.
The Rush answered right back with a goal from one of their own defenseman, Riley Weselowski who collected his first of the season 14:01 into the period on a wrist shot from the blueline.
However, just 2:04 later, the Mavericks regained the lead when a Rush turnover led to a scoring chance for John-Scott Dickson who snapped a shot from the top of the right circle that found the twine.
The Rush had a great start to the second when veteran Jarrett Konkle netted his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a breakaway just 1:03 into the period.
The Mavs then picked up their own breakaway goal when Colt King put Missouri on top 3-2 at the 3:38 mark.
Exactly two minutes later, Scott Wray set a screen and defenseman Jordan Behler potted his second goal of the season to even the score at three-all.
The final period featured the second penalty shot of the season against the Rush as Kenton Miller had an opportunity to give his team the lead. However, the chance was denied by Boron, his second penalty shot save of the year, setting the stage for a game-winner.
The Rush received that goal in the form of a rebound tally with less than five minutes left from rookie forward Jeff Lee on a goal that not only served as the game-winner, but the first of his professional career.
