NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – The Brahmas topped the Quad City Mallards Wednesday night by a dominating score of 5-0 behind goaltender Kristofer Westblom’s shutout in net. Fort Worth jumped out to an early lead just 2:44 into the first period when Tomas Klempa fired a wrister by Mallards netminder John Murray. For Klempa, it was his fourth goal of the season and second in the last five games. The score was also his first game-winning goal of the 2012-13 season. Although Klempa’s goal was ultimately enough, the Brahmas tacked on two more in the first period and one in each of the remaining two periods. Brendon Hodge and Sy Nutkevitch notched the other two first-period scores. Erik Spady beat Murray on the doorstep at the 10:34 mark of the second period for his second goal of the season, and Adam Hogg scored an unassisted goal at 9:11 of the final frame to increase the Brahmas’ lead to 5-0. The score was Hogg’s fourth of the season. Hogg, Klempa and Nutkevitch each ended the game with a goal, an assist and a +2 plus/minus. Westblom stopped all 18 shots he faced between the posts for the Brahmas, earning his second win and the first shutout by a Fort Worth goalie this season. The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native is now 2-1-0 with a 1.61 goals against average and a .927 save percentage since being signed November 21. Murray, who made 20 saves on 21 shots when the two teams met a week ago, struggled in net for the Mallards, stopping only 17 of 22 shots fired by the Brahmas.
