CHELMSFORD, UK – This weekend saw the Chieftains come away with another two points in the league and the South East Trophy. On Saturday night, the Chieftains played host to the Streatham Redskins in a league match that saw the Chieftains come away with a 5-1 victory; this is the same team they will face in few weeks in the NIHL Cup Final.
This was always going to be a hard, physical game as it was winner take all match.
It took a power play in the 14th minute of the match for the Chieftains to get on the scoreboard with a goal from player-coach Gary Clarke.
The Raiders came out hard in the second period and put the Chieftains under pressure, but with hard work from the team and Ben Clements in the net for the Chieftains they managed to end the period with the score still 1-0.
It was not until the 46th minute when the Raiders again conceded a power play that gave the Chieftains the chance they needed to put the home team 2-0 up, with a goal from Ross Brears.
Yet another power play against the Wightlink in the 50th minute and a goal from Gary Clarke put the Trophy out of the reach of the Raiders.
The first silverware of the season is safely in the Chieftains Trophy cabinet, with hopefully more to follow.
