RALEIGH, NC – After a three and half hour trip to Raleigh yesterday we had an opportunity to see the first AHL game played at the RNC Arena.
With the end of the NHL lockout just announced, the hockey fans in Raleigh turned out in force to see some of the future Hurricanes play on home ice.
A crowd of 10,256 watched the Charlotte Checkers defeat the Admirals from Norfolk 3-1.
Being a new venue we were not familiar with the protocol for photographers positions. The shooting areas were assigned and we were able to shoot from three different spots during the three periods.
What a difference between the Hurricanes venue and the Checkers venue. The one big difference was that the NHL photo cut-outs were smaller than those in Charlotte. Also where the Charlotte rink has very strong Lexan like “glass” they have the real thing in Raleigh…..and they clean it before every game. There are no smudge or stick marks in Raleigh. Nuff said….here some pics from the game. Lighting was better in Raleigh that they don’t shoot with strobes….house lighting is fine.
