BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Beast rang in the New Year with their final game of 2013, looking to avoid the three-game sweep to the Quad City Mallards. Despite two power play goals, the Mallards were able to take home their third victory this weekend with a final score of 3-2.
The goal lamp lit up three times in the opening frame as Mike Stinziani broke away on a breakaway to score the opening goal 6:08 into the game. Jim McKenzie took a double minor high sticking penalty which allowed Fournier to capitalize. Fournier’s 14th of the season was a redirected shot past Thomas Heemskerek to tie the game at one. With Matt Boyd’s teammate still in the box, he answered to Brampton’s goal less than a minute following to give the Mallards a 2-1 lead going into the intermission.

McQuade received a beautiful fake shot pass from Rob Collins to beat the Mallards’ goaltender. While the two teams were tied at two, Stinziani scored his second of the night to give the Mallards what would be the game winner. The Beast kept the game close in the final frame.
