Allen made the score 4-0 on a goal by Brian McMillan at 3:46 in the third period, and Denver got as close as 4-2 when Brad Smyth scored 19:06 into the third period.
With the win, the Americans evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.
The Cutthroats’ power play was ineffective against Allen’s penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.
The Americans excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 10 chances.
Allen was helped by Todd Robinson, who racked up two goals and one assist. Robinson scored the first of his two goals at 16:51 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Allen. Robinson’s next tally made the score 3-0 Allen with 19:17 left in the third period. Darryl Bootland provided the assist.
Allen additionally got points from McMillin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Justin Kirsch, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Trevor Ludwig also scored for Allen. In addition, Allen received assists from Tyler Ludwig, Corbin Baldwin and Kale Kerbashian, who contributed one a piece.
Denver stifled the Americans’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.
Denver also got a goal from Jamie MacQueen as well. More assists for Denver came via Barry Goers, Troy Schwab and A.J. Gale, who each chipped in one.
Allen’s Aaron Dell stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Americans incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 16 minors.
Kieran Millan rejected 22 shots on goal for the Cutthroats. Denver incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
