David Brown slammed the door on two breakaways for the Americans, robbing both Darryl Bootland and Adam Pineault. At the other end, it was Aaron Dell with spectacular save after spectacular save, not giving an inch to keep the game scoreless through the first 40 minutes of play.
In the third, the Sundogs gained the first advantage when forward Derek LeBlanc took the puck to the front of the Allen net and put one past Aaron Dell to give Arizona a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal.
Just over two minutes later, Sundogs netminder David Brown got caught behind his own net, while Adam Pineault delivered a pass to Chris Doyle alone in front for his second goal of the season and the game was tied again at 1-1.
It looked like overtime was in the cards until Adam Pineault ripped one from the left wing boards down low for his 13th of the season, to give the Americans a 2-1 lead. Arizona pulled the goaltender late in the period, but was unable to get another past Dell, as the Americans held on for the one goal victory.
With the win, Allen guaranteed themselves home-ice for round one of the playoffs.
